Beat of a Drum - Mel Afoa

His heart goes wild when he sees her,
walking through the school corridors,
long legs, high skirt and crazily hot hair,
surrounded by her minions, her mates.

He follows her at times, eyes only on her,
weaving his way through the school corridor,
wanting to talk, wanting to have her to himself,
but the words stumble whenever she is near.

His heart goes fast, like the beat of a drum,
when she talks him, and goes faster when she smiles,
and he cannot help but smile and feel at home,
the wind's breath dancing lazily between them.

She's like a drug, like a tranquilising one,
he cannot stop getting addicted to her presence,
he needs to see her everyday to satisfy his heart,
but he ignores his soul as it yearns for her.

He sees her with her bunch of followers,
always laughing, the sound so sweet and deadly,
He likes the way she moves, the sound of her voice,
and he yearns to tell her, yearns to hold her within his arms.

He notices she is shy around him, whenever he talks,
and he cannot help but wonder whether she feels the same,
but he knows that life with her would be deadly,
her love is like a drug, makes his heart fast like a drum.
