She's Gone - Mel Afoa

She is running through the crowd,
hysterical, tears silently falling,
searching yet failing,
to find happiness.
Where did it run?
She keeps running, keeps pushing,
hitting anyone in her way without a glance back.
She's trying to run,
as fast as her thin legs can carry her,
yet somehow, and strongly,
Depression pulls her back like a dog on a leash.
She's like a puppet, played around,
lifeless, used and abused, pulled away.
There is a high speed chase.
She is driving at the highest speed,
zooming down the freeway.
She had finally found Happiness,
and there he was, sitting solemly in the backseat.
Depression is behind their vehicle,
black figure on a beautiful black motorbike,
twisting and turning, just to catch up.
She hits the accelerator, avoiding everything she sees,
yet it is difficult because everything is just a blur.
Also, Depression is pulling the strings.
She wants to run, wants to escape,
but the strings are tightly pulling her body and soul,
her heart is fighting an internal war.
Depression is gaining on her, and soon catches up
and instantly she feels a cold air seep through the open windows.
Through the back open window, Happiness jumps out,
ditches her on her road to recovery.
She slams the brakes,
sits there sobbing silently as Depression slows down,
hops of his bike, and engulfs her with his power.
When you came, you thought she was different.
It is true. She was.
You thought she would be the same person you left,
bright, funny, intelligent and a beautiful person within.
You though that after all these years of being together,
you'd both find your ways back to the old days,
where you could enjoy each other's company in Happy Land.
Unfortunately, you did one mistake.
You came in her life.
She became the right-hand of Depression,
a fearless, heartless soul.
Funny enough, you never questioned it,
only because you cared about yourself and YOUR life.
She tried to find you.
She tried to get back to you.
When she found you, she tried to take you away,
she tried to protect you.
Jumping out of the window was not what she thought you'd do.
You abandoned her when she really needed you.
You were her happiness.
Were
.
