Deflating Egos - Mel Afoa
how you thought I'd be burning when you walked out.
You thought wrong, I have to tell you.
You said that you deserved better, that there were bigger things out there,
than a small, country girl like me.
You had come to this Outback Farm from the loud City,
looking for a place away from your busy social life.
I had given you what you seeked, for reasons even I do not understand why.
You searched for fun, for comfort, for contentment, and I had given these things.
I gave you fun when you claimed the city was just about work,
I gave you comfort when you told the stories of your unfortunate break-up,
I gave you contentment when you said you needed happiness by your side.
You thought it would be funny to play on my heart,
to see how a country heart differs from a city one,
Which one breaks faster?
Fortunately, when living in the outback,
You learn quicker, you grow up faster,
You are prepared enough to face the lone troublemaking teenage boy,
who with his mysterious personality, loaded money and perfect looks,
was sure enough to break you.
You had assumed that us country people didn't really understand big love,
just because our societies were different.
Honey, love is same everywhere.
The day you gave me the kiss, you thought I was falling for you.
The day you wrapped your arms around me and whispered love words in my ear,
I could only giggle.
The day you went away without a single glance at me, I smiled.
I was smart enough not to fall in love's trap,
especially with a city boy like you.
A city boy who only cared about his money, his looks and the increase of his ego.
Nonetheless, I am not hurting, I am not burning,
I am just waiting.
Waiting for another one of you city boys,
to grace the outback with your presence.
Just an ordinary country girl deflating egos.
