Appearances Can Be Decieving – Mel Afoa

Two months ago, I met this pretty boy,
Found him on the corner of Tweet Street.
Our conversation was anything but sad,
I probably blushed more than three times,
Couldn’t help it; electricity sparked the air,
His emerald eyes fully of mystery and sex,
Body releasing the sexiest images seen,
Light brown locks gleaming in the sun,
Smile as powerful as the sun itself.
Saved as a contact, and a significant memory,
I’d text him until the sunrise appeared,
Sending the sweetest texts back and forth,
The feeling of pure Heaven in the air,
Smelling of that rare, musty herb of love.
Getting high on that smell each time,
I’d focus on nothing but his texts.
Sometimes, when lucky, he’d call,
And bedtime would be when the sun rose,
Falling asleep with the brightest smile.
When I saw him again at the theatres,
It was like getting hypnotised all over again,
Standing there so perfectly, sculpture-like,
One would mistake him for being an angel.
Snuggling inside the dingy theatre room 23,
His warm, minty breath would caress my face,
Powerful enough to distract me from the movie,
Whipped with this angelic-like pretty boy here,
Warm, soft hands entangled with my own,
Legs wrapped around each other’s as if normal.
His laugh was just as magnetic as his smile,
The sound of it as dangerous as pure music,
As beautiful and controlling as the beat.
When he kissed my lips, time paused forever,
His lips grazed mine with such sweetness,
I’d compare his lips to kissing a cuddly bear,
The definition of the word ‘amazing’.
Unfortunately, appearance differs from reality,
And two months after walking out on me,
I finally realize my mistake of falling for him.
Life teaches us lessons every single hour,
Every single day of every month, year,
And in this case I learnt a very special lesson.
Never fall for a guy who doesn’t love you deep,
Who doesn’t wear his heart on his sleeve,
For a guy who covers his heart with his appearance,
Would reflect on nothing but his own reflection and thus;
Appearances can be deceiving.
